FRIDAY

Set out to view the main attractions of the City. Bob was extremely delighted to find a small museum dedicated to the City Police force. He delighted in discussing his career with the attendant and stressed his attachment to the George Cross presented to the Royal Ulster Constabulary prior to its becoming the Police Service of Northern Ireland. St. Giles church, the home of the Scottish Church Assembly was next a beautiful building with some fantastic windows and furnishings. A visit to Castle which was preparing for the Edinburgh Tattoo. Viewed the many exhibits of Scottish regiments and history of Edinburgh. Due to rain decided not to await the 1.00 gun! Called into Victoria Regalia shop and made a number of purchases. Very impressive stock and friendly staff.

Visited Greyfriars paying respects to the famous Greyfriars Bobby. Lunched in the Greyfriars Bar (Leslie sampled the haggis, neeps and tatties). Followed by a brief visit to Grand Lodge of Scotland where only the museum was open. However very interesting exhibits showing Masonic items and other things from various bodies. W. Bro. Lennox was particularly impressed to see some Cedarwood timbers from Lebanon (the Tower of Lebanon is reputed to be either a Cedar Tree or a tower constructed of Cedar. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing.

SATURDAY

Following some tourist shopping a taxi arrived to take us to Rosslyn where we were to meet Chick Beattie and Wayne Clemitson From Rosslin St. Clair No.606. Having left our regalia etc in the Lodge room we walked the short distance to Rosslyn Chapel. Chick Beattie provided an excellent and interesting guide to the Chapel having spent many years around the building. He was able to point out many interesting features and provide some Masonic "food for thought". The building is currently being repaired and brought up to date but nothing is restricted from view. We think we may revisit after the renovations are completed in 2/3 years. A quick visit to the souvenir shop completed the visit and thankfully Matt got a coveted keyring! We bought postcards to include in the Lodge circulars.

After lunch we attended a meeting of 606. This was amazing we reckon there were no many less than 100 in the room from various Lodges and Constitutions. Being completely new to Scottish Ritual; we were amazed at the events. Starting with Matt as current W. Master were each (as Past Masters) introduced to the Rt. W. Master and asked to sit in the East behind his Chair. We were delighted to be allowed to witness a 1st Degree on their Candidate Callum Cunningham. We were truly amazed at the Degree and the efficient way it was carried out. No books, everyone in the right place at the right time and only two prompts from the floor. Good enough to make you feel just a little humble! The members thought there were one or two things it may be worth including in 169s business including VISITATIONS where Brothers who have visited other Lodges give a quick report on who, what a nd how they were received. Some things in the Closing Ceremony and especially the basket of sweets passed round during the meeting. We were also impressed to see that a "comfort Break" was included (we added this to our Installation meeting some years ago.

The Festive Board was prepared by the wives and was excellent the Rt. W. Master supplied a couple of glasses of Scotch. Some of the Lodge entertained us and were added to by W. Bros. Cooke and McCutcheon who never fail to impress with a song and a few jokes. We returned to Edinburgh in a taxi driven by a Brother from another Lodge.
